]]>Pickeringâs Gin have launched a brand-new Spring Gin in their popular 500ml gifting sized bottle, just in time for Motherâs Day.
Following from the sell-out success of Pickeringâs Forget-Me-Not Gin, launched back in 2020 for Valentineâs Day. The small distillery has responded to increased demand for seasonal gifts by creating this limited-edition Gin distilled with real flowers and Scottish honey.
Â
Pickeringâs Heather and Honey Gin is based on the original Pickeringâs Gin recipe dating back to 1947, this unique London Dry Gin is distilled with fresh flowers including heather, lavender, and rosehip. Gin-drinkers will enjoy the initial burst of fresh, floral notes, complimented by the blend of organic Scottish honey, giving a light, nectareous finish.
Jason Toro, Production Manager at Summerhall Distillery comments,
"The award-winning distillery teamed up with local Scottish florist, Mud Urban Flowers to create the ultimate Motherâs Day gift. Known for their extravagant fresh and dried flower bouquets, Mud Urban created a dried flower bouquet to compliment Pickeringâs Heather & Honey Gin."
Chloe Milligan, Founder at Mud Urban Flowers comments,
âMother's Day is one of our favourite days of the year here at Mud. Itâs all about letting that special person in your life know just how important they are to you. When fellow Scottish brand Pickeringâs came to us with the idea of gifting their customers a little something extra special this Motherâs Day, we instantly said yes. We also loved the idea of matching the botanicals used in their Heather and Honey Gin to the bouquet with flowers and colours. I have no doubt this will be a popular gift this Motherâs Day!â

]]>Edinburgh based distiller, Pickeringâs Gin is celebrating the easing of lockdown by showing its support to the on-trade, giving away 100 free gin and tonics to guests of new local Edinburgh bar. Nestled in the heart of Summerhall Arts Venue, Pickeringâs Gin shares its home with The Royal Dick Bar and the newly launched Gallery Bar.
In-conjunction with the opening night of The Gallery Bar on Thursday 20th of May, the first 100 guests who order a meal will be able to enjoy a Pickeringâs Gin and tonic on the house! Pickeringâs classic red top gin will be up for grabs, based on an old Bombay recipe, handwritten in 1947. Distilled from nine botanicals, this fresh and light gin will be served with Indian tonic water and fresh grapefruit to guests at the opening night of The Gallery Bar.
Matt Gammell, Co-Founder and Head Distiller comments,
âThis is some really positive news for Summerhall. Being able to support our residents and the trade after such tough times is all the more rewarding. Itâs great to see our local pubs full once again and as a small distillery in a close-knit community at Summerhall, I wish the team at The Gallery Bar the best of luck for opening nightâ.
With locals able to enjoy drinks outdoors, the reopening of The Royal Dick Bar in Summerhall Courtyard has faced huge demand, having been fully booked since mid-April. Alongside the latest government guidance, indoor drinking can commence from 17th of May and Summerhall anticipates for alike demand ahead of the opening of The Gallery Bar.
Marcus Pickering, Co-Founder and Head of Export at Pickeringâs Gin added,
âItâs been a delight to see life brought back into Summerhall and our courtyard now that restrictions have eased. The opening of the new Gallery Bar will heighten this buzz and itâs a privilege to be able to show our support by providing guests with G&Ts on us. Iâm very much looking forward to enjoying a tipple with the team on opening night.â
The Gallery Bar has been fully refurbished bringing the flair of Summerhallâs residents under one roof. Featuring a seasonal food menu, Pickeringâs Gin and Barneyâs Beer on tap and hanging artwork from past Summerhall exhibitions and artists.
For opening night of The Gallery Bar, you can bag your place and complementary G&T by booking online at the Summerhall website.
Now Providing Hand Sanitising Spray to Frontline Services.
Please email sanitiser@summerhalldistillery.com
At times like these, we all should step up and do our part. As of today, Summerhall Distillery will switch our available resources to the production of hand sanitising spray.
We have developed the spray to supply this product at cost, direct into the supply chain of frontline services- such as the NHS, emergency services, schools, and care homes- to sanitise surfaces and keep their workers safe.
We currently have no plans to retail this directly either via our website or our distillery. For the safety of our team, please DO NOT come to Summerhall Distillery looking to buy the product- even if you are a representative of a frontline service.
Instead, please send us an email to sanitiser@summerhalldistillery.com. We will be prioritising initial orders to supply the most in need.
Why at cost? As a small distillery with limited financial resources, we want to ensure that we can sustain this supply of sanitising spray into the months coming. This is not a marketing gimmick and weâre not in this for a quick buck. We want to do our bit to bolster the supply chain and ensure that frontline services can keep themselves and others safe at this worrying time.
In the meantime, we would like to reassure our customers that we have ample stocks of our gin made and ready to go and will be selling from our website. In order that we can prioritise the production of the sanitiser, all deliveries (including those within the Edinburgh City Bypass) will now by shipped by Parcel Force.
We are proud to be stepping up, like so many other of our peers in the Scottish distilling industry to make products when people need them most.
Yours,
Marcus and Matt- Co-Founders of Pickeringâs Gin

Our new bottle scheme gets the green light
This time 5 years ago in Summerhall, Edinburgh, the first batch of Pickeringâs gin was distilled, bottled and dispatched to the general public. We didnât know it then, but we became the first exclusive gin distillery in Edinburgh in over 150 years! So in good spirits, weâd like to share some fond memories...
Back in January, we asked our #Ginfriends what is the next thing theyâd like to see from us. The overwhelming response: âflavours, flavours, flavours!â But what flavour? Well there could be only one choice. Inspired by our signature serve â Pickeringâs Gin & tonic garnished with pink grapefruit â Head Distiller Matt Gammell set about creating our first ever liqueur using the trusty pink grapefruit and fragrant spice that has long been the hallmark of a perfect P&T.
Â
Lusciously tart and tangy, Pickeringâs Pink Grapefruit & Lemongrass Liqueur is blended with the soft, sweet citrus of real pink grapefruit. A twist on the classic French Pamplemousse style, our decadent and refreshing liqueur is lifted with lemongrass and Bombay botanicals. It adds a zesty spring to gin and tonic, cocktails or a simple glass of fizz.
Â
In June, we headed up to the illustrious Gleneagles Hotel in Auchterarder to give attendees of the Brodies Tennis Invitational a sneak preview of our latest creation. The Invitational saw tennis champions Mark Philippoussis, Colin Fleming, Thomas Muster and former British number one Tim Henman battle it out for the final of the ATP Champions Tour. In between sets, avid tennis fans sipped and sampled the liqueur in cocktails pumped straight from our miniature fire engine, the EnGINe 47.
Â
We even roped Tim and Colin in for a shift or two behind the bar to serve up some Pink Grapefruit fizzes. Good job their service is quicker on the court, because they built up quite a queue...
Â
Pickeringâs Pink Grapefruit and Lemongrass Liqueur is now available in our online shop, and at your local independent bottle shop. Scottish Ginfriends: do look out for bottles hitting the shelves at your local Sainsbury's from October 10th.
âIf you canât find what you want, make it yourselfâ was the mantra and sense of determination that led Marcus and Matt to build their very own distillery in Edinburghâs old Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. Unbeknown to them, they were creating what would become one of Scotlandâs most unique distilleries. Which, weâre excited to announce, has been awarded Best Visitor Attraction in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Borders at Visit Scotlandâs prestigious Thistle Awards.
Being recognised and recommended by Visit Scotland as the Best Visitor Attraction fills us up with pride, especially as Edinburgh is second only to London with its number of international visitors, with over 3.85m curious travellers attracted to our cityâs world class museums, theatres, festivals, history and hospitality every year. Once attached to a public vet surgery (later renovated into a pub), our distillery has been welcoming the intrepid and the thirsty for tours since the early days of 2014. Now, our small distillery welcomes up to 300 visitors per week. Not bad for 400 square feet.
This summer, in order to continue improving our visitor experience, we decided to build ourselves a brand new shop and tasting room in the distillery. This means our lovely tour guides Jenny and Victoria (thatâs them in the picture) can spend more time with our guests in between important distillery business and keep our shop open for longer.
Visitors to Summerhall Distillery get to see first-hand how we distil, bottle, label and wax our award-winning gin range by hand. At just ÂŁ10pp each guest enjoys a complimentary welcome P&T, a full guided tour of the distillery and samples of the Pickeringâs Gin range to finish. Our distillery shop is open Monday- Sunday 10am- 5pm if you just fancy some baubles, a bottle, a sample or even just a chat.
Pickeringâs Gin and Seafood Bar: The First Gin Bar in Beijing
In July 2018 we launched Beijingâs first ever Gin Bar. âWhat? Where? Why?â you ask. Well, we may make small batch gin from a 400 square foot distillery in Edinburgh, but we have a determinedly global outlook â much like our home city of Edinburgh.Â
One fortuitous Tuesday in early 2018, Marcus met with Kurt, Director of PandaBrew â the trailblazers in the burgeoning Chinese craft brewing scene. Two very different companies, but with the same mission to bring high quality craft drinks to the Chinese market. Not long after the initial conversation, Pickeringâs Gin and PandaBrew began to collaborate to develop a high-end Pickeringâs Gin and Seafood Bar concept â bringing the first dedicated gin joint to Beijing. Plans quickly shifted into bricks and mortar and in a matter of months our bar was being built in the trendy Sanlitun area of the Chaoyang District in Beijing.
Â
With Scotlandâs first direct flight to China having recently launched between Edinburgh & Beijing, team Pickeringâs hopped on a flight to oversee the final stages of the build. Together with the barâs award-winning head mixologist, John Hung, Pickeringâs Brand Ambassador Stevie Watson tweaked and fine-tuned a bespoke, avant-garde cocktail menu designed to introduce gin to the people of Beijing.
Â
The Pickeringâs Gin and Seafood Bar opened on July 22nd 2018 with a swanky opening ceremony with over 100 local dignitaries, celebrities and influencers from the Chinese capital, all to the tune of Beijingâs only bagpiper. Marcus and Matt donned their full traditional Scottish attire and impressed the crowd not only with their kilts, but our exceptional range of botanically engineered gins.Â
Â
China hasnât yet seen the thirst for gin that the West has had in recent years but itâs coming, and with an alcohol import market of ÂŁ608m weâre certainly excited to be one of the first gins to introduce ourselves! We are absolutely thrilled with the success of the Pickeringâs Gin and Seafood bar in Beijing and are looking forward to the future of Pickeringâs Gin in China. Watch this spaceâŠ
